The CONSUME Room update, a scream queen summer, and The Lion King returns.
hey, consumer.
This week, I wanted to share an update on my in-home podcast studio-slash-guest room!! I had quite the mishap with this room and it’s the sole delay for why the CONSUME podcast isn’t publishing yet. I will be doing video so it’s important to me that all videos look the same and are recognizable online.
To make a long story short, I started working on this room six months ago, thought my designer ordered the furniture i paid for, but the furniture never came. i dont know what transpired exactly but I did get a refund. So I lost all that time, which sucks. but now, I’ve got an incredible friend-of-a-friend who is a designer helping me create this amazing space that will be done at the end of THIS MONTH!!
This is a simple layout of the room for reference:
Here’s a quick list of what I’m going for:
COZY, COZY, COZY.
Similar colors and tonEs that match my branding, which you may have already noticed in this newsletter.
A mix of new and old, modern and retro.
Patterns. You won’t see any in the mockup below because those will come in when we source curtains, chairs, and pillows.
My main inspiration for this room is Gigi Hadid’s fashion line called Guest In Residence. It literally embodies everything I’ve envisioned for CONSUME. It’s cozy, effortless, chic, old, new. The base of the color palette are bold neutrals with pops of color. I love it so much. This image below, represents the gist of my inspiration for the room.
To see what exactly we’re doing to the room, as well as a room mock-up (that I created in Canva lol), read the blog post by clicking the button below! I’ll be updating this post as we make headway on the room so you can see the changes as they unfold.

the summer of the scream queen, MaXXXine
The 3rd installment of Ti West’s X series came out in theaters last weekend and Mia Goth is definitely in my top five Hollywood muses. It also feels like the Summer of the Scream Queen this year with MaXXXine, Longlegs, and Blink Twice releasing during these hot summer months.
Maxine Minx is a porn star-turned-movie star and I loved this 80s denim look she dons in the movie. I wanted to choose a set that’s a little more modern, but still has the cropped bootcut leg in the jeans. This set also has a little more glitz to allude to the spotlight and camera flashes on Maxine in the movie. Shop the look here!
what i’m watching this week
Supacell (2024): This is a new show on Netflix that’s made it to the Top 10. It also got the rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes so naturally, that peaks my interest. It’s a sci-fi show about superhuman humans lol. On Netflix.
Monkey Man (2024): This movie came out in April and I’m surprised Thor and I haven’t jumped on it sooner because Jordan Peele is a producer. It’s star and director is Dev Patel (remember him from Slumdog Millionaire??) and it’s a story about revenge. On Peacock.
I’m also juggling an absurd amount of shows right now. I don’t usually do this because I like to focus but why is the content so goOoOd right now!?
House of the Dragon On Max.
Presumed Innocent On Apple TV+.
Peaky Blinders On Netflix.
Loudermilk On Netflix.
Bridgerton On Netflix.
The Bear On Disney+, Hulu.
what to watch by genre
All movies and tv shows that I recommend in this section are included with a subscription. I have also viewed and approved every recommendation personally. It’s my goal to make recommendations that will satisfy what you’re in the mood for so none of your precious downtime is wasted!
Drama (Crime): Goliath (2016): Watch for a compelling crime drama full of twists and turns. Billy Bob Thornton plays Billy McBride, a washed up lawyer who is also a drunk. But his a wrongful death case falls into his lap and he takes on the law firm he helped build. Each season is about Billy and his legal team taking on a new Goliath. Season 1 is hands down my favorite, but they’re all entertaining! On Prime Video.
Comedy: Burn After Reading (2008): Watch for one of Brad Pitt’s funniest performances. I absolutely love this movie. And so did the small group of people who nominate movies for awards. Every character is so dumb, but it’s all so well acted and the story is well developed, that it doesn’t come off as a dumb movie, just a bit fragmented because, well, it’s supposed to be that way. There’s a difference between a disjointed movie and an intentionally disjointed movie. Written and directed by the Coen Brothers, who also did No Country For Old Men (another fave). On Netflix.
Thriller: The Gift (2015): Watch for a freaky could-be-real-life thriller that will leave you with a pit in your stomach. Starring Jason Bateman, his character is starting a new family with his wife (Rebecca Hall) when his past comes back to haunt him. Made by Blumhouse, a production company known for their horror films so there are some scenes that give you a horror vibe, but nothing gruesome. Thor and I love this one and I wish there were more thrillers like this out there! “The bad things in life can be a gift.” On Netflix.
Horror: The Conjuring (2013): Watch for an actually-really-good horror movie (and series of movies). It’s hard to make a legitimately good horror movie that will be taken seriously, but The Conjuring is one of the best I’ve seen. This is the first (and best) in the series of pictures. It’s very loosely based on a married couple who are paranormal investigators that help people experiencing haunting occurrences. On Netflix.
Rom/Com: Sleepless In Seattle (1993): Watch for a sweet 90s love story with the most iconic duo ever, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. This, and You’ve Got Mail, are undoubtedly some of my longest-standing comfort movies. Rom-coms from the 90s had such a different feel than they do today and it’s one of innocence, charm, and wholesomeness. It’s a On Max, Hulu.
Documentary: The Man with 1000 Kids (2024): Watch for a shocking story that will make you want to punch someone (but mostly the guy that this is about). Discover the repercussions of a serial sperm donor in this 3-part docuseries. There is resolve at the end, but the lasting effects of one man’s ego are heartbreaking. On Netflix.
Kids: Holes (2003): Watch for a trip back to your early childhood when you had to read this book in school and then got to see the movie in theaters. I can’t explain my love for this movie enough!! Watching it with my kids for the first time was a monumental moment for me. I smiled the entire time. This movie released in the same year as The Even Stevens Movie, both of which were Shia Labeouf’s first motion pictures. But Holes outshone Even Stevens, and was the foreshadowing moment when we all saw what Shia was capable of. On Disney+, Hulu.
in theaters
There aren’t too many movies that I’m dying to see this weekend, however, Longlegs is certainly at the top of my list. And if Thor and I didn’t have kids right now, this is one of those movies that we’d run to the theater to see on opening night.
Longlegs | Fly Me to the Moon | The Lion King |
Who doesn’t love Nicholas Cage and he’s returning to the big screen in a big way with this terrifying horror film, Longlegs. The trailer alone gave me the serious creeps and it’s been getting rave reviews from critics out there! Can’t wait to see this one!
I was 3 years old when The Lion King came out in theaters so being able to see this movie on the big screen would check off a bucket list item for me. For the 30th anniversary of this iconic animation film, select theaters are showing it nationwide. Don’t miss this opportunity for real!! (P.S. Mufasa comes to theaters this year at Christmas).
I’ll be honest, I’ll probably wait to see Fly Me To The Moon when it’s available to stream free. It got a decent, okay score on Rotten Tomatoes (65%) and I always trust that ScarJo chooses good scripts to take on, but I’m not overly entranced by the storyline and Channing Tatum isn’t one of my favorite actors (I like him, he’s just not a draw for me). But if I had seen everything else I want to see in theaters and just felt like going to a movie, I’d go see this.
Films that I’ve mentioned in previous newsletters that are still in theaters that I have either seen or are on my watchlist are Inside Out 2, Kinds of Kindness, The Bikeriders, Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 (this is bombing so maybe skip it), A Quite Place: Day One, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, MaXXXine, and Thelma.
