đâď¸ Did House of the Dragon need to go there?
My iron stomach has been usurped.
hey consumer!
đ¨ SPOILER ALERT đ¨
Proceed with cautionâŚ
The much awaited second season of House of the Dragon on HBO (watch now on MAX) is officially here, with Episode 1, titled âA Son for a Sonâ, airing this past Sunday, June 16th. This season is comprised of 8 episodes and will come to a close on August 8th. I was so excited for this premiere that I crammed a rewatch of the entire first season into Fatherâs Day weekend⌠whoops. Not my finest moment as a wife but this was an important matter.
Now, when youâve created a pretty enthralling first season and therefore a highly anticipated second season, you really need to make a bang in that returning first episode. The pressure is high.
Well, a bang they sure did make, despite the fact that 95% of the episode moved fairly slow, focusing more on establishing the mental and emotional states of the characters post-season-one-finale events. S2E1 picks up right where we left off. As a reminder, King Viserys is dead, the Green Council (Alicent, Otto, Aegon, etc) usurped the Iron Throne, and the behemoth dragon Vhagar went rogue and chomped up Lucerys (Rhaenyraâs second son) and his dragon mid flight. Both of which are acts of war if you ask me.
Below is an overview of my chronological thoughts while watching the season premiere. I want to know what your thoughts are too so make sure you DM me or leave a comment on my latest post!
Opening the episode at Winterfell felt like I was home again and the only missing piece was Jon Snow. đ
Iâve always loved the emphasis that the GoT franchise puts on a motherâs love for children and Rhaenyraâs search for proof of her sonâs death was so sad to watch, but painted a good picture of how any mother would be as it pertains to the loss of a child.
She definitely didnât bathe for weeks while on that mission.
Do you have any theories, thoughts, or hopes for this season? I want to know! Email me at [email protected] or DM me on Instagram. Dracarys!
what iâve been watching
Peaky Blinders: This was a show we just could not get into for years. I donât really know why, maybe the thick accents. But since we now watch everything in subtitles itâs much easier to follow. Love the characters, love a gangster story, love the time period, just enough gore and violence, and love stories are present but not the focus. Cillian Murphy is also, unmatched. Weâre on season 2 and loving it so far.
Bridgerton: The second half of season 3 just dropped days ago and I've only seen season 1, which I absolutely loved. So Iâve caught up on season 2⌠Itâs oookkayyy, doesnât hold a candle to itâs predecessor, but is still beautiful to watch and mildly entertaining. Sometimes a struggling second season is followed up by a redeeming third so Iâll continue watching.
what to watch this weekend
Everything I recommend in this section is free with a subscription. I have also viewed and approved every recommendation personally. Itâs my goal to make recommendations that will satisfy what youâre in the mood for so none of your precious downtime is wasted!
Drama: The Iron Claw: Watch if you need a good cry, but be warned the content skews more devastating than just plain sad. Itâs based on a true story.
On Max and Hulu
Comedy: Platonic: Apple TV+: Watch for an easygoing, light, funny, feel-good mood. I watched the entire season in a weekend. From the director of Neighbors, starring Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne.
On AppleTV+
Thriller: The Killing of A Sacred Deer: Watch if youâre in the mood for eerie, odd, and menacing (plus some gore). But, itâs not for everyone! Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (his latest works are Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness) and one of Barry Keoghanâs most notable films. Also starring Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman.
On Max and Hulu
Horror: The Babadook: Netflix: Watch for an indie, artful iteration of the genre (and if you really want to get freaked out). Itâs one of the best horror films Iâve ever seen. Itâs an Australian film and I think they make some of the best.
On Netflix, Hulu, AMC+, Pluto
Rom/Com: Your Place or Mine: Watch when youâre not looking for an incredible story, just something entertaining and sweet with two familiar faces, Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher.
On Netflix
Documentary: How To Rob A Bank: Netflix: Watch for a captivating true storyââwith an unlikely culpritââthat seems impossible to be real. True-crime with resolve; a quick 90 minutes.
Kids: Despicable Me: Watch for Steve Carell comedy, heartwarming moments, and a refresher before the 4th movie arrives to theaters.
On Peacock (kids movies do not have ads!)
in theaters
We are definitely back to life before the pandemic where movies are now exclusively showing in theaters for a limited time, before they hit all the streaming apps! while i sometimes wish i could watch anything i want whenever i want, i do appreciate that weâre going back to a place that feels so pure and innocent. there is nothing like seeing a movie in the theater. itâs something i used to do multiple times a week. and it needs to be celebrated.
Sooo with that, hereâs whatâs I want to see. *Note: Iâve seen IF and Inside Out 2 (of course both the kids movies). Loved them both. See a mini vlog here đ The rest are movies that are on my Watchlist and Iâve done research on.
