Plus, shop Lily Bloom's look! (a cute version).
hey consumer!
News broke that filming Freaky Friday 2 is underway. You might have seen the photo above floating around the internet, showing Lindsey Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis sitting outside of each otherās trailers having switched places (cute)! Itās also been confirmed that several major cast members are returning, like Chad Michael Murray!!
As a 1990 baby, I was 12 years old when the first remake came out in 2013 (yes, there is an even older one from 1976 with Jodie Foster). Based on that fact alone, you can imagine the instant, dramatic return of my 12-year-old self, screaming on the inside when Disney confirmed this news.
A flood of nostalgia came back to me from my preteens and had me revisiting some memories from that time. This is what I love so much about movies and musicā¦ Theyāre mile markers for our lives and truly the only way to time travel at present. Hearing one of your favorite oldies or watching that coming-of-age movie that defined āgrowing upā for you is the best feeling.
This got me thinkingā¦

lily bloom but make it cute
For all of us Colleen Hoover fans, we are dying for August 9, 2024 to arrive when this book-turned-movie, It Ends With Us, will finally hit theaters. However, when paparazzi photos of Blake Lively filming on set hit the internet, her outfits got some heattttt. And not the good kind. I mean, I have to agree. The outfits are chaotic with a lot of pattern mixing and color clashing, yet, thatās not what bothers me about these costumes. Itās the sheer tailoring, or lack thereof, of the outfits and how they hang on Blakeās body making her look frumpy, boxy, and a lot heavier than she actually is. Thatās my beef. So letās take one of these less than flattering fits and make it cute. Shop the look here!
what iām watching this week
Presumed Innocent: Iāve been waiting for a few of these episodes to stack up because itās one that I know I wonāt be able to watch week by week. Big Jake Gyllenhaal fan and the Executive Producer is Greg Yaitanes, who is also an EP on House of the Dragon. Not gonna lie, I binged four episode last night. If you canāt tell Iām hooked.
Emily In Paris: Iāll be the first to admit that I was a haterrrr of this show when season 1 came out. I thought it was cheesy writing, subpar acting, and all around goofy. BUT, I realized I was being a snob. One thing I firmly believe, and want to strongly message through this platform, is that you can love almost anything on screen for specific reasons. And I love Emily In Paris for certain things. I love it for the setting, the fashion, and the light-heartedness. Itās an easy watch that requires no brain power. I love to have it on in the background while Iām working or doing chores, or if Iām just in a super girly mood. This show is created by Darren Star, who is known for Sex and the City, Younger, And Just Like Thatā¦ all shows I love, for certain reasons š. Part 1 of season 4 premieres on Netflix August 15th.
Loudermilk: See more about this one in the section following. But this is a very dry, funny show that somewhat reminds me of Curb Your Enthusiasm in regards to how itās structured (however, itās not as smart). Thor (husband) and I have been loving watching this at night before bed.
House of the Dragon: This third episode is coming. Iām still just a bit of a hot mess since episode 1. My mama heart canāt take it anymore.
The Bear: Season 3 baby!!! I LOVE this show. All episodes dropped last night and I canāt wait to start diving in. Iām still reeling from the Christmas episode from last season. Hands down one of the best episodes ever created in the history tv shows. Canāt wait to see what they cook up next. Yes, Chef!
what to watch this weekend
All movies and tv shows that I recommend in this section are free with a subscription. I have also viewed and approved every recommendation personally. Itās my goal to make recommendations that will satisfy what youāre in the mood for so none of your precious downtime is wasted!
Drama: The Lost Daughter: Watch if youāre a parent and need to feel seen. Youāll watch the struggle between living for yourself and for someone else right before your eyes. This movie is a devastating, haunting depiction of being a parent and our constant struggle with guilt. Be forewarned, it is not heartwarming. Starring two of my favorites, Dakota Johnson and Olivia Colman. On Netflix.
Comedy: Loudermilk: Watch if you love a sitcom vibe and dry humor from a pessimistic lead. Ron Livingston couldnāt be more perfect to play Sam Loudermilk, a sobriety counselor to a band of misfits. Created by one half of the Farrelly Brothers (Peter to be exact) who is known for Green Book, Dumb & Dumber, and Thereās Something About Mary. On Netflix.
Thriller: Emily the Criminal: Watch to feel a bit stressed (lol), action, and Aubrey Plaza in a different kind of role (that she nails it at). Starring Aubrey Plaza, I was pleasantly surprised by this action thriller. Fed up with dead end jobs, Emily finds herself an opportunity to make quick cash, but illegally, of course. It does a great job of building on intensity layer after layer. On Netflix.
Horror: X: Watch for a slasher film with well-developed characters. This movie got a lot of praise and I agree with it. Itās sexy, funny at times, and not too scary. Yet it keeps a good pace and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Like any slasher, it is predictable, but itās meant to be that way. Leaves this weekend on June 30! On Netflix.
Rom/Com: Set It Up: Watch for relatability to your 20-something hustle, great co-lead banter, and Glen Powell. This movie came out before Glen Powell became Glen Powell. He has a goofy haircut in this movie and doesnāt appear as his hunky self we know and love today. Unpopular opinion: Iād say his wit and chemistry with Zoey Deutch surpasses that with Sydney Sweeney. On Netflix.
Documentary: Free Solo: Watch for an intense, mind-blowing, very well-done story about an expert in his craft. I have never been on the edge of my seat like I was watching this documentary. During and after watching, I couldnāt wrap my head around the fact that this man, Alex Honnold, rock climbs the highest mountains with nothing to catch him if he fell. Itās one of the best documentaries Iāve ever seen and you must watch it in your lifetime. On Hulu and Disney+.
Kids: Luca: Watch to travel to your family summer Eurotrip and for a heartwarming story of friendship. This movie is one of my personal favorites. Luca reminds me so much of my son so maybe thatās why, but itās the perfect flick for family movie night. On Disney+.
in theaters
Ohhh boy it is a great weekend for the theater. Beginning tomorrow, these four movies will be available to enjoy at your local cinema.
Kevin Costner returns to the big screen as another Western cowboy, something that comes second nature to him, in part one of his four part movie, Horizon.
One of my favorite actresses, Dakota Johnson, stars opposite Sean Penn (Iāve missed him!) in Daddio.
The prequel to a Quiet Place is also out, starring Lupita Nyongāo. The first two movies were great, especially the first one, and I believe the common denominator is John Krasinski. He has his hands in A Quiet Place: Day One so maybe it will be entertaining in the least!
And lastly, coming off of a huge high with his previous work, Poor Things, Yorgos Lanthimosā Kinds of Kindness is out, receiving tons of praise. He has a unique style, so Iām excited to see how it manifested in this film.
